A young customs officer, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) Lawal Tukur, has been found dead in a hotel room in Katsina State under mysterious circumstances.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Murjani Hotel in Katsina metropolis, where the deceased had reportedly lodged with three women.
Hotel staff discovered the officer lying lifeless in his room around 8:30 a.m. and immediately alerted the management. Investigators later found empty sachets of suspected substances in the wastebasket.
The three women, identified as Khadija Ali (34) of Dutsin Amare Quarters, Aisha Lawal (30) of Ingawa Local Government Area, and Hafsat Yusuf (22) of Brigade Quarters, Kano, were said to have been in the hotel at the time of the incident.
Reports indicate that Khadija and Aisha spent the night with the deceased, while Hafsat joined them later and also lodged in the same hotel.
The body was taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. It has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Although the Katsina Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has yet to release an official statement, sources said the remains of the late officer were buried later that evening according to Islamic rites.
His funeral prayer was held at his family house in Sabon Layi, near the Katsina Police Compound.
